The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is offering 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within the first three months, plus a $300 credit for hotel and vacation rental bookings through Capital One Travel. Capital One labels it a limited-time offer and shows no end date, so check the application page before you apply.
That pairing is a bigger welcome offer than the miles alone, but the credit only helps if you plan to book a stay through Capital One Travel.
What the Offer Includes
You earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 within the first three months of opening the account. On top of that, Capital One adds a one-time $300 credit toward hotel and vacation rental purchases booked through Capital One Travel.
The credit expires one year after account opening, so it has to be used inside your first cardholder year. Capital One's page says the offer may not be available if you navigate away from or close the page, so apply from the page showing it.
Who Isn't Eligible
Capital One excludes applicants who received a new cardmember bonus for the Venture or the Venture X in the past 48 months. If you've held either card recently, check your own history before you apply.
What the Card Costs and Earns
The annual fee is $95. The card earns unlimited 2X miles per dollar on every purchase and 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.
Capital One also lists a statement credit of up to $120 when you use the card to apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. The credit is available once every four years per account. Capital One says it has 15-plus transfer partners, which is where miles can be worth more than a flat redemption.
Is the Offer Worth It?
Say you value each mile at one cent when you book travel with Capital One. Then the 75,000 miles come to $750 before the $95 fee, and the $300 credit is extra if you were already planning a hotel or vacation rental stay. Transferring miles to an airline partner can be worth more or less than that, depending on the route and the dates.
The credit is the part to be honest about. If you don't book hotels or vacation rentals through Capital One Travel, you won't use it, and the offer comes down to the miles.
How It Compares
At the same $95 fee, the usual cross-shop is the Chase Sapphire Preferred. The Venture earns flat 2X on everything, so it suits spending that isn't concentrated in dining or other bonus categories. For a side-by-side, see Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Capital One Venture.
For a premium option, the Venture X carries a $395 annual fee. Our Venture vs. Venture X comparison covers whether the higher fee pays off.
Your Next Step
If you'll book a hotel or vacation rental through Capital One Travel in the next year and can spend $4,000 in three months without stretching, apply from Capital One's page while the offer shows. If you won't use the credit, the 75,000 miles still stand on their own, so decide on the card's everyday value.
