There are no nonstop flights from the U.S. to Bora Bora, so the cheapest route is usually a long-haul flight to Papeete, Tahiti, then a short hop to the island. Air Tahiti Nui flies nonstop from Los Angeles and also sells Los Angeles to Bora Bora as a single ticket, so price that fare first.
How You Get There
You fly into Faa'a International Airport in Papeete on Tahiti, then take a domestic flight of about 50 minutes to Bora Bora. Tahiti Tourisme also lists a ferry as an option for the inter-island leg. Many resorts on the small islets around Bora Bora can only be reached by boat, so ask your resort how transfers work before you book.
Book the Tahiti Flight Early
The long-haul leg to Papeete is the expensive part of the trip, and Tahiti Tourisme advises reserving it early to get the best price. Fares to Tahiti are seasonal, so compare more than one airline. Air Tahiti Nui flies from Los Angeles, and other airlines serve Papeete from the U.S. West Coast.
Compare One Ticket Against Two
Price the through fare to Bora Bora against a separate Papeete fare plus a separate inter-island ticket. A single ticket can be simpler if your flight is delayed, while two tickets are sometimes cheaper. Check both before you commit.
Be Flexible and Set Fare Alerts
Fares to Tahiti change with the season and the day of the week, so move your dates by a few days and check shoulder-season weeks. Set fare alerts on Google Flights or your airline's site so you see a drop when it happens, and search nearby U.S. airports as well as your home airport.

If you hold airline miles, check whether your program books Air Tahiti Nui or a partner to Papeete. Air Tahiti Nui's Club Tiare program lets members earn, buy or redeem miles. The long-haul leg is where award tickets save the most money.
