Booking Lufthansa First Class with miles used to mean waiting for one short window close to departure, when Star Alliance partner programs could see First Class award seats. For years, partner programs saw Lufthansa First Class space only in a short stretch close to departure, while Lufthansa's own Miles & More members could book First as soon as the schedule opened, subject to capacity. As reported, the partner side has gone quiet on every route since June 1, 2026.
Confirm the current position on Lufthansa's own site before you plan around it. If a seat does appear in a partner search, treat it as a bonus, not a plan.
What You Can Book and Where
- Miles & More: Members can search First Class awards from schedule open, but space is limited. Lufthansa now prices awards on its own flights dynamically, so the miles price and the cancellation fee follow the cash fare, and some routes show no First space at all.
- Partner programs: Aeroplan, MileagePlus and LifeMiles have shown no Lufthansa First Class award space since June 1, 2026, as reported.
Before You Move Any Points
Search first, transfer second. Check the Lufthansa First flight you want on the program you plan to book with, and move points only after the seat shows there. A seat that appears in one tool may not exist in the program you transfer to.
If you are using Miles & More, compare the miles and cash fees against the cash fare for the same flight. When the award price follows the cash price, the gap between them is what you're paying for.
What to Do Instead
Decide whether the date or the cabin matters more.
If the date is fixed, look at Lufthansa Business and at other Star Alliance premium cabins on the partner sites you already use, and confirm on each program's site what is bookable. If the First Class ground experience in Frankfurt or Munich is the point, price a cash First Class ticket on lufthansa.com and compare it with the Miles & More award.
If your dates are flexible, set a recurring search on Aeroplan, MileagePlus and LifeMiles for the flights you want, and check Miles & More at the same time. Book the moment a seat shows in the program you hold points in.

Open Miles & More and search your route for First Class. If you see space at a price that makes sense, you have your answer. If you see nothing, search the same flight on Aeroplan and United, and keep your points in your transferable currency until a seat appears.
