Bilt Rent Day pays you for one thing: moving spending to the 1st. On the 1st of every month, Bilt cardholders earn double points on everyday purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points a month, and rent and mortgage payments are excluded, per Bilt's own Card 2.0 program overview.
That 1,000-point cap shapes the whole strategy. Below is what Rent Day pays on each of the three current cards, how to reach the cap without buying anything you didn't need, and where transfer bonuses and your rent fit in. What Rent Day Pays on Each Bilt Card
The promotion runs from 12:00 AM ET through 11:59 PM PT on the 1st. Bilt lists the Rent Day rates this way:
- Bilt Blue: 2X points on everyday purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points.
- Bilt Obsidian: 6X on your selected category of dining or grocery, 4X on travel, and 2X on other everyday purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points.
- Bilt Palladium: 4X points on everyday purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points.
The cap counts bonus points, not total points. Bilt's own example uses the Palladium: it normally earns 2X on everyday purchases, Rent Day adds another 2X, and "it would take $500 in eligible spend to reach the 1,000 bonus point maximum." The higher a card's everyday rate on a purchase, the less you need to spend on the 1st to reach the cap.
Move Spending You'd Do Anyway to the 1st
The simplest stack is timing. Look at the purchases you'd make in the last few days of a month or the first few of the next, and put the flexible ones on the 1st: the gym renewal, a grocery run, a restaurant booking, a flight you were going to buy that week.
On the Obsidian, the category you picked matters. Rent Day pays 6X on it, so a grocery-category cardholder should make the 1st the big grocery day, and a dining-category cardholder should book dinner that night. The Obsidian's 4X on travel is the other lever: a flight or hotel you've already decided on earns more on the 1st than on the 2nd.
Two other Bilt earning layers sit alongside this. Bilt Neighborhood Dining restaurants add a bonus "on top of your card's standard earn rate," shown in the Bilt app when you visit. Hotels and flights booked on the Bilt Travel Portal earn more than everyday purchases; on the Blue, for example, Bilt's card page lists 3X on hotels and 2X on flights booked there. When layers overlap, trust the rate the Bilt app shows you at the time of the purchase.
Don't buy things to hit the cap. A purchase you didn't need costs more than the bonus it earns.
Make Sure the Charge Lands on the 1st
Bilt is explicit about timing: "the merchant must submit the charge to your card as having been made within the promotional period," and Bilt "does not have the ability to control how or when a merchant submits charges."
So favor purchases that charge at the time of sale. A restaurant bill paid at the table or a grocery checkout is straightforward. A hotel that charges at checkout, a preorder that bills when it ships, or a subscription that renews on its own schedule can land outside the window.
Authorized Users Get Their Own Cap
Bilt says authorized users "can earn double points on everyday purchases made with their Bilt Card on the 1st of the month, with their own 1,000 bonus point monthly cap." Where those bonus points post depends on the primary cardholder's points allocation setting: the primary's account or the authorized user's.
For a household, that makes Rent Day a two-person job. Split the 1st's planned purchases between cards so neither person blows past the cap while the other card sits idle.
Points Accelerator and Rent Day Don't Stack
Obsidian and Palladium cardholders can spend $200 of Bilt Cash on the Points Accelerator, which adds 1X on the next $5,000 of everyday spend, up to five activations a year. Bilt's Card 2.0 overview says "Double points do not stack with Points Accelerator," and that Bilt "will determine and apply the applicable promotion under which you will earn the most points."
In practice, if the Accelerator is running when the 1st comes around, you get one or the other, not both, and Bilt picks whichever earns you more.
Rent Day Transfer Bonuses and Your Status Tier
Bilt describes Rent Day as the day it drops "limited-time benefits," starting with "unparalleled transfer bonuses." Those transfer bonuses are sized by your Bilt status tier, and Bilt Cash can move you up one: Bilt's Bilt Cash page says you can "upgrade your Rent Day transfer bonus to the next status tier," with the example of "Gold member can upgrade from 75% to 100% by redeeming Bilt Cash," and Platinum members get an additional boost. Bilt notes pricing and availability are subject to change.
Your tier comes from points earned in a calendar year (Silver at 50,000, Gold at 125,000, Platinum at 200,000) or from non-rent spend on the card and in the Bilt ecosystem (Silver at $10,000, Gold at $25,000, Platinum at $50,000), whichever is higher, per Bilt's elite status page.
A transfer bonus only helps if you have a redemption to use it on. Check the month's Rent Day bonus in the app, and transfer when you have the award ready to book. Our Bilt transfer partners guide covers which partners are worth it, and October's Rent Day is a recent example of a tiered bonus.
The Rest of Rent Day
Rent Day also carries a collaboration and Bilt's monthly Rent Free game show, where members can win free rent. In September 2026 the guest was Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman, with festival access and the first chance to donate Bilt Points to Global Citizen, per Bilt's newsroom. For October 2026, Bilt announced John Legend, with a member-exclusive vinyl of his album Muse, a chance to attend a private show on October 21 in San Francisco, and point donations to Scholarship America, per its October release.
Where Your Rent Fits
Rent Day doesn't touch rent itself: "Housing payments (rent and mortgage payments) are excluded from Rent Day bonus points." Your rent earns through the bonus option you picked for your card.
With Housing-only rewards, you earn up to 1.25X on rent or mortgage, set at the end of each billing cycle by how much you spent on everyday purchases compared with your housing payment. Bilt's example: a $2,000 rent payment with $1,500 of everyday spend in the same cycle qualifies for 1X, or 2,000 points. Purchases you make on the 1st are everyday purchases, so they count toward that cycle's spend too.
With Flexible Bilt Cash, you earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, and every $30 of Bilt Cash you redeem means 1,000 points on housing, up to 1X of your payment. Our rent payment setup guide walks through connecting your rent.
The Monthly Routine
Pick your Bilt card for everyday earning and housing, not for Rent Day: 1,000 bonus points a month is a top-up, not a reason to carry a $495 card. Then run the same routine each month. Plan the 1st's flexible purchases, put them on the card until you reach 1,000 bonus points (the Obsidian in its chosen category, the Palladium and Blue on everyday purchases, minus the exclusions in Bilt's Double Points terms), split them with an authorized user if you have one, and check the Rent Day transfer bonus against an award you're actually ready to book.
